A note from Lisa

The part of you that isn't you

You are carrying trillions of bacteria in your gut. Together they are called your microbiome, and they are not passengers. They help you break down food, make certain vitamins for you, train your immune system, and talk to your brain.

You started collecting them the day you were born, from your mother, from breastmilk, from the floor, from the family dog. That collection keeps changing your whole life, and what you eat changes it fastest.

Here is the part most people do not know: your gut bacteria do not want more of one food. They want variety. Different bacteria feed on different plants, so the wider you eat, the wider your microbiome. The people with the healthiest gut bacteria are the ones eating around thirty different plants a week, and that counts everything. Herbs, spices, seeds, nuts, beans, grains, fruit, vegetables. A teaspoon of mixed seeds on your porridge is four.

So start with your plate. A supplement cannot replace a varied diet, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

But life happens. Antibiotics, a stretch of eating badly, travel, stress, illness, these knock the balance about, and sometimes it needs help coming back.

That is what this one is for. One capsule a day, 28 billion organisms, from a brand that has actually studied the strains it uses rather than throwing numbers on a label.

Eat the thirty plants. Take this while you are getting there.
